Back2School with ICNA Relief and Salaam Food Pantry

On August 3rd, 2024, ICNA Relief, in collaboration with Salaam Food Pantry, held its annual Back2School Event. From 11 am to 1 pm, volunteers gathered to distribute free backpacks with school supplies, candies, clothes, and food to help students in need prepare for the upcoming school year.

The Back2School Event is more than just a charitable distribution; it symbolizes hope and opportunity for families facing economic hardship. This year, the event was a resounding success, providing 120 backpacks filled with school supplies and clothing. These items help students prepare for their studies and boost their confidence as they start a new academic journey. Kaneez Fatima, ICNA Relief's Event Director, expressed her gratitude for the community's support and the event's positive outcome. "We are incredibly grateful for the impact ICNA Relief’s Back2School program has made in our local communities," she shared. "Thanks to the unwavering support of our dedicated partners and volunteers, we’ve been able to prioritize families facing economic challenges and provide them with essential resources. By offering new supplies and backpacks, we’re not just meeting practical needs; we’re helping to build confidence in these students. It's heartwarming to see the smiles on children’s faces as they prepare for a new school year."

Her words capture the essence of this occasion: beyond the tangible gifts, the intangible joy instilled in children makes a lasting impact. For many students, receiving new school supplies and clothes is a significant morale booster, making them feel ready and excited to learn.

Ozair Mahmood, an ICNA Relief volunteer, emphasized the event's significance for refugees and families struggling financially. "A school bag costs $20-30, and they need that money for basic necessities. It’s great that we’re providing bags, food, and clothing," he said. Proud of his work, he added, "I hope we’re helping these children grow up to continue the cycle of giving. Giving back keeps our community united."

The Back2School Event, supported by Salaam Food Pantry,  is a testament to the power of generosity. By providing essential resources, the event eases the financial burden on families and helps children start the school year with confidence. The smiles and gratitude of the recipients reflect the lasting impact of these acts of kindness, inspiring a cycle of giving that will benefit future generations.
