Averroes Winter Hygiene Kits and Blanket Drive
In the month of January, Averroes High School, an Islamic high school, donated hygiene kits and warm blankets for the upcoming winter season. Students prepared and assembled hygiene kits, alongside 100+ warm blankets. These kits included toothbrushes, toothpaste, body soap, and other essential items for men and women.
“It is extremely important for high school students to participate in hands-on community service like this, especially as Muslim high school students,” said Noor Lazkhani, an Admin Support at Averros High School. Students took the initiative and gathered the kit's items and assembled them together, noting that it was valuable to see the direct impact that grassroots community service has. One student reflected, "I never thought about the basic necessities that people would need and not have the ability to purchase with their own money." The donated blankets and the hygiene kits will be distributed to families facing financial difficulties, ensuring they have the essentials to stay warm during the next couple of months at the Salaam Food Pantry.
Noor Lazkhani emphasized, “We would love to see more efforts like this within our communities, in order to support one another and to follow the Prophet's hadith ﷺ “He is not a believer whose stomach is full while the neighbor to his side is starving” where the "neighbor" is identified as about 40 houses left and right.”
Salaam Food Pantry remains committed to serving the community as the winter season progresses. Thank you to Averroes High School for generously donating hygiene kits and warm blankets and helping support families in need!
