Fremont Students Lead Dental Hygiene Kit for Tri- City Families
This summer, Fremont high schoolers Carson Zhu from John F. Kennedy High School and Aaliya Teli from Irvington High School turned their summer break into a community health initiative, organizing a dental hygiene kit drive to support underserved families across the Tri-City Area. Partnering with local dental offices, the pair set out to collect around 250 kits packed with toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, and other essentials.
In total, the drive collected 390 toothbrushes, 220 tubes of toothpaste, and 220 flosses!
Aaliya's experience centered on the reward of showing up consistently. "I've been volunteering with the pantry for a while now, and I truly love volunteering here," she said. "It was a great opportunity to help serve the community and meet new people."
For Carson, the project became a lesson in empathy as much as generosity. "I think we should all be mindful and empathetic towards the many people who aren't able to access a lot of the basic hygienic needs us humans have," Carson reflected, "and taking the initiative to provide them with this through community outreach has been one of the most impactful ways I've felt like I could contribute to my community."
Special thanks to Carson, Aaliya, and all the participating dental offices for helping make this drive a success!
