Niles Rotary Club at Salaam Food Pantry
·Salaam Food Pantry, established in 2016 is a community based food pantry that is held every 4th Saturday of each month in Irvington district of Fremont. In April, the pantry distributed 300 bags that consisted of non-perishable food items along with fresh produce and bread. Fresh warm meal boxes were packed and served with vegetable rice, baked chicken, chicken noodles, lentil soup, and fresh naan bread. The pantry was able to run smoothly thanks to the help of many youth volunteers who clocked in around 140 volunteer hours. It was a successful event that helped many families in need with help from youth, adults and volunteers from the Niles Rotary Club.
The Niles Rotary Club, a global network of leaders and problem solvers, who joined the pantry as volunteers to assist those in need. The club chartered in 1937 is the first Rotary Club to be organized in Northern California. Members believe in taking action on the world's most persistent issues and building meaningful friendships to serve local and worldwide communities. Special thanks to Aziz Akbari, Community Service Chair from The Niles Rotary Club bringing his energetic volunteers to contribute their time and effort to the pantry and spent their time distributing food bags to the community. Their volunteer work was a testament to the Rotary motto and they left the pantry feeling fulfilled and accomplished.
