Hunger impacts many millions more people than homelessness and its effects are not as readily visible to us.

The number of the individuals in poverty in the San Francisco Bay Area grew from 573,333 (8.6%) in 2000 to 668,876 (9.7%) in 2006-2010. In 2015 the poverty rate in the SF Bay area, was 11.3%, above the historical average rate of 9%.
